How to Separate Flavors That Look Similar

Similar beverage cans separated into distinct flavor groups.

When two flavors look alike, relying on package color can cause stocking and picking errors. Use the written product identity as the final check.

Make the difference visible on the shelf

Give each variant a clearly labeled position with its full flavor name and container size. Include the supplier SKU in an internal reference where staff can see it. Leave enough separation that a neighboring product does not appear to belong under the wrong tag.

If THC and non-THC products share similar branding, make that distinction explicit in the layout and labels.

Check at three points

  • Receiving: compare the case label with the order.
  • Replenishment: match the actual can to the shelf position.
  • Picking: confirm the full variant before completing an order.

A quick photo reference can support training, but it should be updated when packaging changes. Keep readable names and SKUs alongside the photo so staff are not dependent on a color match.

Record recurring errors and adjust the layout where the confusion happens.
