A SKU, or stock keeping unit, is an identifier used to distinguish one inventory item from another. In a beverage catalog, it helps separate products that may look or sound similar.
Match the SKU to the full description
Keep the supplier’s SKU beside the brand, flavor, format, container size, and selling unit. A different pack configuration can have a different SKU even when the individual can looks the same.
Do not assume every supplier uses the same internal SKU for a product. Keep a supplier identifier in its own field, and distinguish it from a barcode or any code your business assigns internally.
Use it at each order checkpoint
- Copy the SKU when requesting a quote.
- Confirm it on the purchase order.
- Match it against the packing list.
- Keep it in the inventory record.
- Use it when reporting a discrepancy or reordering.
A SKU is helpful, but it should not replace a readable product description. Using both makes it easier to catch a copied code or a pack-size error before the order is finalized.
Ask about current items through IncredMed wholesale or send a specific catalog question.
